Band History (1998)

January 15, 1998

Yellow No. 5 plays open mic night at Otter's Pub in Meadville, PA
as an audition for paying gigs. They loved us! And, they want us
to come back for more gigs. So, we're happy.

March 6-7, 1998

Yellow No. 5 records new material for their album on 16 track ADAT
at Cycling Troll Recording Studios in Fairview, PA. Now $450 poorer,
we need to get some more cash and return to mix the album.

March 21, 1998

Mike and Jason return to Cycling Troll to begin the mix, adding
another $200 to the bill, with 3 songs (Paper Boy, Canvas In The
Sky, and 21) left to mix.

April 5, 1998

Mike and Steve return to Cycling Troll to finish the mix, adding
another $150 to the bill, for a grand total of about $775. We'll
have the CDs in time for the Blue Planet, though.

April 9-10, 1998

Mike heads to Youngstown to maks the pre-release CDs, and ends up
having to stay overnight to complete the work. Only 20 copies were
produced in time for the Blue Planet...

Sandy Pickup publishes a very kind and timely article on Yellow
No. 5 in the Bravo section of the Meadville Tribune.

The Julian's show on the 10th was excellent. The crowd was large,
and the playing was good, with only a few snags in the first half
of the show. April Johnson walked away as the winner of the first
pre-release copy of "Side Pocket," autographed by the band.

April 11, 1998

The 4th Blue Planet Show went flawlessly. The crowd was enthusiastic,
the music was good, and everyone had a great time. We sold some CDs
and tapes, and we've heard nothing but good comments so far.

April 25, 1998

Earth Day show at Allegheny College. The show was enjoyable, despite
a low turnout. To those of you who were there, thanks for showing up!

We then drove off to Greenville, for...

Skatoraid '98 , which was nearly a disaster, 'cause Jason broke a
string during the first song and we didn't bring a backup! Luckily,
one of the other bands was kind enough to let us borrow their guitar
so we could finish our set.

May 16, 1998

Cafaro House Party at Youngstown State University, officially called
"Skollapalooza." We played forever. We had a great time, and we got
paid for it. Plus, it was our first out-of-state show.

May 22, 1998

A great Julian's show! We started late 'cause I locked my keys in my
car... but anyhow, once we began, it was great. We debuted a new, as
yet untitled song at the show. We wrote it at rehersal right before
the show.

June 20, 1998

We kicked off the Market House's Summer Solstice show with an hour-long
set. As soon as we were done, we took off for the Westside in Conneaut
Lake, PA, to open for Dick's Loft. Both shows went really well.

July 17, 1998

Another great Julian's show! We winged the whole two-hours, since we
forgot to make a setlist, but it went really well.

August 5, 1998

Our final Julian's show of the summer, we actually made a setlist this
time. We were joined on stage by special guest sax player Dave Laub,
an excellent musician. He added a great new dimension to our sound.

October 20, 1998

Our first show at the Boro Bar in Edinboro, PA. We opened for "Anubis."
However, our 10-12 slot was perhaps our most powerful performance yet,
and Anubis's frontman said they shouldn't even go on after us because of
it. We were extremely flattered. The crowd was huge, especially for a
Tuesday night, and the vibe was amazing.

December 12, 1998

Show at the Boro Bar in Edinboro, PA. Anubis opened for us. Our last
show of the year.

Go on to 1999 history!
