I carved stone figures out of wood
Turned lead into gold
You never did believe I could
All I did turned cold
Wood Doll, you were never meant to fly
Wood Doll, you weren't supposed to die
I never wanted to leave you
I didn't want to cry
You never were far from my reach
I always heard your voice
Undying passion in your speech
Left by accident, by choice
Wood Doll, you were never meant to fly
Wood Doll, you weren't supposed to die
I never wanted to leave you
I didn't want to cry
I'd write another sad, long verse
But I wouldn't know what to say
If you could rewrite your last lines
Would you be here with us today?
Wood Doll, you were never meant to fly
Wood Doll, you weren't supposed to die
I never wanted to leave you
I didn't want to cry
Lyrics: Mike Music: Mike Mike wrote this song in July of 1994 late one evening. It is about two talented artists that died while in their prime, Kurt Cobain of Nirvana and Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone. The title was derived from Andrew Wood's last name and Kurt's collection of rare dolls. It's a very simple song, and conveys its message well. During the studio recording process, Steve ended the song prematurly but re-entered later. The verse where Steve dropped out is where the noise guitar was overdubbed. That version of the song turned out better than the way we had performed it before, so we left it that way.
